Academic Advisement

PPISD school counselors have access to your classes, your grades and extracurricular activities. We use this global view of your education to help you see the big picture when it comes to planning for your future. Although we play a role in this process, it is up to you to make sure you get the college and career guidance you need.

Age appropriate career decisions and planning occur on all of our campuses. Students are encouraged to share their interests and goals with us. The more we know about you, the more we can help. Here are some of the many ways school counselors can aid you.

  • When we meet, talk about your favorite subjects and classes and your plans for life after high school. We can use this information to help you plan your high school class schedule.

    We are available to discuss:

    • The classes you need to complete to graduate on time
    • The types of classes that most colleges look for
    • Getting the help, you need if you’re struggling in class
    • Taking classes and participating in activities that will challenge you
    • Discuss colleges that match your academic and career goals.
    • College Planning
      • When it comes time to apply, your counselor plays a big role in the process.
    • Paying for College
      • The government, colleges and private organizations offer students money to help pay for college. Your school counselor is a good resource for information about financial aid and they can give you an insight on how the process works. Be sure to ask about scholarships, which offer money you don’t have to pay back.

    • The counselor's office can help with planning for your future in several ways:
    • Self-assessments using career exploration software (Tests that reveal students’ strengths & interests)
    • College & Career fair
    • Scheduling presentations from industry professionals
    • Exploring career areas that interest you can help you choose fitting colleges, majors and job paths. Your school counselor can let you know what kind of education or training the fields you're interested in require.
