PPISD Career and Technical Education

  • The mission of the Career and Technical Education is to provide industry-linked programs and services that enable all individuals to reach their career goals in order to achieve economic self-sufficiency, compete in the global marketplace, and contribute to Texas's economic prosperity.

  • Career Technical Education will engage every student in high-quality, rigorous, and relevant educational pathways and programs, developed in partnership with business and industry, promoting creativity, innovation, leadership, community service, and lifelong learning.

  • CTE courses prepare students for high-skill, high-wage, and high-demand careers. Through our diverse programs of study, PPISD students have opportunities to develop skills that lead to industry-based certifications and prepare them for their next level of training beyond high school.

Programs of Study

Programs of study are course sequences that prepare students with the knowledge and skills necessary for success in their chosen career. These sequences embed relevant, real-world experiences and culminate in a postsecondary credential that will prepare students for a high-wage, high-skill, in-demand career. Students gain focused knowledge and skills aligned to career and industry standards through multiple years of scaffolded educational experiences. The courses contained within statewide and regional programs of study are determined by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) per the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act (Perkins V).

Agriculture, Food, & Natural Resources

The Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources (AFNR) career cluster focuses on the essential elements of life, food, water, land, and air. This career cluster includes occupations ranging from farmer, rancher, and veterinarian to geologist, land conservationist, and florist.

Business, Marketing, & Finance

The Business, Marketing, and Finance career cluster focuses on careers in planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating business functions essential to efficient and productive business operations. This career cluster includes occupations ranging from business owner and entrepreneur to accountant, retail manager, and market analyst.

Education & Training

The Education and Training career cluster focuses on planning, managing, and providing education and training services and related learning support services. All parts of the courses are designed to introduce learners to the various careers available within the Education and Training career cluster. This career cluster includes a diverse spectrum of occupations, ranging from teaching assistant to classroom teacher to school administrator.

Hospitality & Tourism

The Hospitality and Tourism career cluster focuses on the management, marketing, and operations of restaurants, lodging, attractions, recreation events, and travel-related services. This career cluster includes occupations ranging from reservation and transportation ticket agents to event planners and general managers.

Information Technology

The Information Technology (IT) career cluster focuses on the design, development, support, and management of hardware, software, multimedia, and systems integration services. This career cluster includes occupations ranging from Software Developer and Programmer to Cybersecurity Specialists and Network Analysts.

Law & Public Service

The Law and Public Service career cluster focuses on planning, managing, and providing legal services, public safety, protective services, and homeland security, including professional and technical support services. This career cluster includes occupations ranging from all aspects of the military, police officer and firefighter to political scientist and lawyer.

Concentrator and Completor Designations

Concentrator:

  • A student who completes, passes, and receives credit for two or more high school CTE courses for a total of at least 2 credits within the same program of study and who is not a completer.

Completer:

  • A student who completes, passes, and receives credit for three or more high school CTE courses for four or more credits, including at least one level 3 or level 4 course, from within the same program of study.
